POSITION SUMMARY:
Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing and repairing Medium/Heavy duty fleet vehicles and works in close relationship with the Garage Service Manager under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Must hold at least a high school diploma or GED
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B with a P endorsement) and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- Must obtain a Texas Department of Public Safety Bus Certification.
- Must be certified in all (6) of the ASE Automotive Certifications A1-A8 or Medium/Heavy Truck equivalent T1-T6 or S4, S5, S6 or demonstrates proficiency in these areas.
EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred - 5 years previous experience in Medium/Heavy duty vehicle maintenance and demonstrate a thorough working knowledge.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Diagnose repairs needed to properly maintain fleet vehicles.
- Repair and test vehicles as a quality control assurance that all repairs were completed properly and the unit is safe to put back in service.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work area and abide by all safety policies and operating procedures.
- Consult and assist the Garage Service Manager on all major repair decisions.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Perform duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety equipment and safety procedures must always be used when performing essential job functions.
- Must be capable of working and standing on concrete floors for an entire shift.
- Must be capable to lift or move at least 80 pounds safely a minimum of 5 times per shift.
- Requires the use of precision-measuring tools, specialized test equipment and the safe operation of all shop equipment and tools.
- Have a thorough knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning and air bake systems, engine, transmission, differentials and have the ability to diagnose and repair failures of all major and minor components.
- Must be proficient in reading wiring schematics and diagnostic flow charts.
- Must be proficient in communicating in verbal and written form.
- Proficient in overhauling and exchanging most major components (engine, transmissions, differentials, starters, alternators, air compressors, moisture ejectors, brake systems, carburetors and repair front and rear suspension components).
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Must practice reliable and regular attendance.
