PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the band director in the overall administration of the band program at the campus level. Coordinate assigned student activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the instrumental music program
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Teacher experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Planning
- Assist middle school instrumental performers, including marching band, concert band, soloist, and ensembles.
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Assist in providing for band participation at extracurricular events including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in band area.
- Support band booster club activities.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Recommend policies to improve program.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the principal.
